La lectura completa y en voz alta del Quixote es una tradición española que se suele celebrar el 23 de abril, día de la muerte de Cervantes (y Shakespeare) y Día Internacional del Libro. Como el 23 es un lunes, nos adelantamos un día. El objetivo mayor, sin embargo, es pasarlo bien y recuperar la actividad de la lectura como una práctica comunitaria y divertida.
The complete out-loud reading of the Quixote is a Spanish tradition, usually held on April 23, the day that Cervantes (and Shakespeare) died and International Book Day. Since April 23 falls on a Monday this year, we are holding the event one day earlier. The larger objective, of course, is to have a good time and to recover the practice of reading as an enjoyable community experience.
La lectura completa y en voz alta del Quixote es una tradición española que se suele celebrar el 23 de abril, día de la muerte de Cervantes (y Shakespeare) y Día Internacional del Libro. Como el 23 es un lunes, nos adelantamos un día. El objetivo mayor, sin embargo, es pasarlo bien y recuperar la actividad de la lectura como una práctica comunitaria y divertida.

2. ¿Quién puede venir?/Who can come?
Todos son bienvenidos. Se exige un nivel de español suficiente para disfrutar de la lectura en voz alta, pero el evento es para la diversión de una comunidad de lectores, y sin criterios ni juicios externos. Todos pueden venir de oyentes y luego decidir si quieren participar en la lectura. No se exige en absoluto una familiaridad con el texto.
All are welcome. Readers must have sufficient command of Spanish in order to be able to enjoy reading or being read to out loud, but the event is for the enjoyment of a reading community, and not for the judgments or critiques of any outside audience. Anyone can come to listen and then decide if they would like to participate as readers. No familiarity with the text is required.
3. Tengo una edición del Quixote. ¿Es la correcta? ¿La debo traer?
/ I have a copy of the Quixote. Is it the correct edition? Should I bring it?
Se pide que todos traigan cuántas copias tengan del Quixote, para su uso personal y para compartir con los demás. Cualquier edición completa es aceptable; se repartirán hojas con las diferencias entre la primera y la segunda edición del primer tomo para facilitar la lectura de los capítulos en que se hicieron cambios entre la una y la otra.
Please bring as many copies of the Quixote as you possess, for personal use and to share with others. Any complete edition is acceptable; we will distribute sheets listing the differences between the first and second edition of the first part to facilitate the reading of those chapters where changes ere made between editions.
4. ¿Algo más que debo traer? / Should I bring anything else?
Se pide que todos traigan cuántas copias tengan del Quixote, para su uso personal y para compartir con los demás. Cualquier edición completa es aceptable; se repartirán hojas con las diferencias entre la primera y la segunda edición del primer tomo para facilitar la lectura de los capítulos en que se hicieron cambios entre la una y la otra.

Ofreceremos algunas cosas de picar pero todos pueden traer comida para consumo personal o para compartir. Como es un evento universitario, se ruega que no traigan alcohol. También les invitamos a traer cualquier objeto accesorio que pueda añadir a la lectura (espada, yelmo, caballo de peluche etc.)
We will provide snacks but all are invited to bring food for themselves or to share. As it is a university event, we ask that you do not bring alcohol. We also invite everyone to bring any props which might add to the reading (sword, helmet, stuffed horse etc.)
